I really appreciate the epic history of Mahabhaarat which teaches us a lot of things, ethics and duties.
I watched the 78th episode of Mahabhaarat tonight, where Bhishma, came to know that he was going to die in battlefield the next day after he gave the solution to Yudhisthir about how to defeat him.
The part that really caught my attention was when Bhishma went to the Kurukshetra at night and met his mother Ganga. What he talked about was something really worth appreciating.
When Ganga asked Bhishma what he was doing so late at night, he replied:
“I was thinking whether the life that I have lived was really fruitful or not”
Ganga replied:
“Son, someone who has only lived for others all his life, there is no question that his life has not been fruitful”
This was a really wonderful statement with a great meaning. Bhishma was not at all worried that he is going to die the next day and nor was he trying to save himself. He was simply smiling and all he asked as a blessing from his mother Ganga, is Salvation.
What we can learn from this is that it’s not that important when or how we are going to die one day, but what’s more important is that how we have actually lived our lives, whether it was worth living or not.
Maybe when we breath our last moments, most of us will look back and think about our life that has passed, in the same way as Bhishma.

There is so much knowledge that can be tapped from the our sacred scripts like Bhagavat Geeta and Ramayana. But unfortunately, engrossed in our pursuit of materialistic gains, most of us are not interested or simply do not care about these. If only 1 % of all humans gave some serious considerations to the philosophical contents of these scripts the world would have been a much better place to live.

If the story of Ramayana or Mahabharat is known to Japanese they would make the epic anime for the both epics of India ! Dragon ball z, Yu Yu Hakusho have many concepts of Hindu and Buddhism in it and they are hit world wide!
